The very British institution the BBC Proms started this weekend at the Royal Albert Hall, billed as the “The World’s Greatest Classical Music Festival” It takes place from 13 July 2012 to 8 September 2012. Last Minute BBC Prom Tickets are available to buy including the famous last night of the proms on Saturday 8th September 2012.


The Proms or The BBC Proms, also known as the The Henry Wood Promenade Concerts presented by the BBC. The proms have their origin in the mid 18th Century but it was really the BBC involvement in the 1930s which formed the proms as we know them today. The Proms is an 8 week summer season of orchestral classical music concerts each season consists of over 70 concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. In recent years there has also being Proms in the Park Concert in Hyde Park.

Prom is short for Promenade concert, one of the most visible and well known concerts is the “Last Night of the Proms” This concert is different to the others. The concert is always broadcast on the BBC and is famous for playing popular classics, and British Patriotic pieces, including Edward Elgar’s Pomp & Circumstance March No. 1 where land of hope and glory is sung then Thomas Arne’s Rule, Britannia! and end with the national anthem.
